“PODI/ CURNA” means “POWDER” and “KIZHI” means “POUCH”
Churna Pinda Sweda is a kind of Swedana (sudation) given by powder of various herbs made as potalis (bolus) and application of these potalis over the body after heating. It can be done as snigdha (oil) or rooksha (dry) according to the condition. In snigdha pinda sweda, oil is applied over the body as well as the potalis are heated in oil. In rooksha sweda the potalis are dry heating in a pan.
Requirements:
Medicinal Powder : 500 gm
Oil (Optional) : 200 ml
Others – Cotton cloth, thread, heating pan, big spoon.
Method of preparation
The powder of required drug is heated in an iron vessel and made in to 4 pottalis containing equal quantity of powder.
Method of tying the potali
Prepared ingredients are placed in the centre of the cloth.
Four edges of the cloth are held tightly so that medicine accumulates at its centre.
One of the corners of cloth is held separately into which the rest three are inserted and wrapped well.
Then using a thread the wrapped portion is tied tightly from top to bottom and vice versa and knotted at top so that the ingredients are held firmly.
Mode of administration/procedure:
Once the patient lies in a comfortable position on the table the therapist will begin the treatment with external oleation (optional). Then pouches filled with medicated powder will be heated and applied on the body in a rhythmic manner.

Acute fevers, Haemorrhagic disorders, Pregnancy, Burns
