With many travellers currently concerned about transiting through the Middle East, it is important to note that Europe – India travel is not dependent only on Gulf hubs. As of 6 April 2026, multiple airlines continue to operate direct services between key European hubs and India, giving travellers a practical long-haul option that avoids Middle East transit on the intercontinental sector. Air India has repeatedly stated during the recent West Asia disruption that its Europe services continue to operate as scheduled, and it also added extra Europe-bound capacity in March 2026.

The strongest direct connectivity continues to come from London Heathrow. British Airways says it currently operates 56 direct weekly flights between London Heathrow and Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, and Hyderabad. Virgin Atlantic also continues to market direct flights from London Heathrow to Delhi, Mumbai, and Bengaluru, describing these as daily connections to three major Indian hubs. Air India, meanwhile, continues to operate its own nonstop London Heathrow–Delhi service.

Across mainland Europe, direct options remain broad and commercially active. Air India now flies nonstop from India to eight mainland Europe gateways: Amsterdam, Copenhagen, Frankfurt, Milan, Paris, Rome, Vienna, and Zurich. Air France currently operates 27 weekly flights to New Delhi, Mumbai, and Bengaluru, while KLM continues to serve Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad, with Hyderabad having been added as KLM’s fourth Indian destination.

Germany, Switzerland, Finland, Türkiye, and Italy also continue to provide direct access to India. Lufthansa serves India nonstop from Frankfurt to Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, and Hyderabad, and from Munich to Delhi, Mumbai, and Bengaluru; Lufthansa’s Frankfurt – Delhi page alone lists approximately 14 weekly flights. SWISS continues direct Zurich flights to Delhi and Mumbai, with its own route pages listing roughly 11 weekly connections to Delhi and 7 weekly connections to Mumbai. Finnair continues direct Helsinki – Delhi service, Turkish Airlines continues nonstop flights from Istanbul to Delhi and Mumbai, and ITA Airways currently operates direct Rome–Delhi service.

For guests travelling specifically to Kerala, the practical alternative is therefore clear: fly nonstop from Europe into a major Indian gateway such as Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, or Hyderabad, and then connect onward within India to Kochi or Thiruvananthapuram. In other words, the long-haul portion of the trip can still be completed without relying on Middle East transit points. This is now the most relevant route structure for travellers who wish to reduce dependence on Gulf connections.

The overall position is reassuring. Direct Europe – India connectivity remains active, visible in current airline schedules, and in several cases has been reinforced rather than reduced during the recent geopolitical disruption. For travellers planning a journey to India, especially those who prefer to avoid the Middle East, direct Europe – India services continue to offer a workable and credible travel pathway. As always, guests should recheck the latest flight status and operating schedule with the airline before departure, since timings and frequencies can still change.
